Wednesday 29th July was our fourth meeting using Zoom
The meeting included:
A PowerPoint display on John Swift, whose memorial was found in Nottingham Road Cemetery. John Swift was born in Canada, came to Derby in 1848 and was treasurer then secretary of Derby Co-operative Society until his death in 1898 aged 74. The prominent memorial was erected by members of the Society.
A discussion on the website http://genealogyintime.com/. This holds a useful list of first name abbreviations. The website appears to be no longer maintained.
A PowerPoint presentation on John William Taylor who served in the Boer War and WW1 and Leonard Walter Chorley who served in WWII. A discussion ensued concerning the countries where John Taylor served as shown on his military history sheet. The information will be updated when copies of Leonard Chorley service records are received
